Tasty Colombo Sourdough French Bread is one of the country’s original sourdough breads, dating back to its beginning in 1886 in Oakland, CA. Many French baking families came to Northern California in the middle 1800s during the Gold Rush days. They combined their hearth bread-baking skills with a natural wild yeast starter that thrives in the misty air, only found in the San Francisco Bay Area. It cannot be duplicated anywhere else.

The Colombo family followed years later and improved upon the same process and, over a century later, is still known for making the Bay Area’s finest sourdough bread. The distinctive taste of all their products still thrives on the misty Bay Area air, while Colombo continues its original method of baking.

Nearly 120 years after the first sourdough loaves of Colombo bread were baked in Oakland, their products are still hand-scored and hearth-baked with slow, even heat to bring out the crusty goodness of the bread. Each loaf requires almost 24 hours of carefully-supervised production time. That is why their products taste so good.

Colombo Baking Company produces a variety of bread and roll products. They are all baked with a measure of history, tradition and pride
